The ceri festivalGUBBIO BETWEEN HISTORY AND ART

Heart of the Umbrian civilization and after that a Roman city situated on the slopes of Monte Ingino, Gubbio offers historical memories from the ancient times up to the Middle Ages, from the Renaissance to our days. Today Gubbio is still a medioeval town entirely preserved. Center of the artd, Gubbio has given birth to painters like Ottaviano Nelli and to architects like Gattapone, to miniaturist Oderisi and to Mastro Giorgio, an artist which was famous for the production of splendid ceramics. The town has magnificent palaces, medieval churches, artisan studios and little shops offering vases, plates and other brightly coloured earthenware pottery, lining the narrow little streets which rise steeply upwards, sometimes like stairways.

On May 15th the Ceri Race Festival attracts tourists from every Country as it does by the end of every year the preparation of the biggest Christmas tree in the world on the slopes of Monte Ingino (908 m).

Heart of gastronomic specialties such as high-quality olive oil and valuable varieties of tartufo, Gubbio recalls also fans of geology (for researches on the dinosaurs era and for the "Bonarelli Horizon"), for sporting lovers of hang gliders and of the river canoe.

But one of the main attractions of Gubbio and in general of Umbrian territory is just its rural architectural patrimony, that combines agricultural economy and farm hospitality and holidays
